Thus I would interpret 8^) as a smirk by someone wearing eyeglasses.

Here's how some parts of the world performed last night and today...

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index skyrocketed 7.86% Monday, boosted by the government's plans to reinforce the Hong Kong dollar, stabilize interest rates and make market regulations more strict. Other bourses strengthened as well, with Tokyo's Nikkei 225 climbing 5.32% and Kuala Lumpur's key index soaring 23%.
