Interim report from Round Rock:
Am just home from a trip thru Round Rock to visit the whales at Sea-World in San Antonio.
The good news is that Round Rock is still in business(haha)
the three new buildings built this year seem to be occupied, and several cranes were at work erecting new ones nearby although I was
not able to tell which belonged to Dell. On Saturday there were
hundreds of employees cars in the parking lots( to be expected, as
this service and administration area has to be manned round the clock)
I stopped briefly at the company store, bought a 400 mhz Pentium 11 Optiplex rebuilt for $1549.99. Has 14/32 Toshiba CD, 64 meg Dimm,
56 k modem etc. Also a HP color printer for $179.Extra Dimm of 64 meg is ~$126( I guess thats because they would install it, as I have one at home for only $69 and will install that one). The store was
also very busy, with well informed employees.
Did not have time to visit the new (production) area being built in Austin
Was surprised to see so many killer whales 70 miles from the nearest ocean, we had dinner at poolside with the critters($25 bucks extra)but they only had the fish(haha). A worthwhile trip as the Sea World park is huge, also very crowded .
Go Dell
