Gott..
I had the exact same problem.
I just bought a new printer about a week ago (hp672c).
But I had a Epson Lq-570 and it did the exact same thing.
I could print a 4 page document and it would take 8 pages
to print it. I never did figure out how to fix it so I bought
a new color one which is what I wanted anyway.

I did my best. here is a good place to start trying to figure out your problem:
epson.com

They have an FAQ for printing two pages for each page. I'm not sure it will work, but their solution is:
If you're using single sheets you need to make sure the software is set up for either single sheet paper or 61 lines per page otherwise it will print a few lines on a second page if the document is over 61 lines. Some older DOS software may not have those settings if it is designed to be used only with tractor feed paper. For Windows software, make sure to select Sheet Feeder bin 1 for your paper source
in Printer setup.
