As I said earlier in this thread, man needed something to explain what he could not, and thus came these stories. And that is why these stories are so useful. The mythology of a culture (and I include in that term the Hebrew and Christian bible stories) represents its version of what is most important. That's where all the big ideas are. Poor Emile doesn't seem to have a clue about what he's dancing with. (I don't either, but at least I know I don't know . . .
