Nancy; RE:" trying to build a floor "

Nancy, I think your (three recent postings) analysis of sentiment is quite good (and it was also expressed in a very concise way).

I wonder if you would be so kind as to share some of your current and considered trading positions with us ? merci

-Steve

Hi Nancy,..Re: fundamentals only went from bad to worse
and we will hear more earnings warnings very soon. HWP just said that US has cooled down a lot and the evidence will show in next few months.

Are you basing your estimation of market fundamentals on what HWP has stated? Haven't they missed all earnings estimates for the past 8 or more quarters? If they had zero earnings last quarter and Dell, which is a more narrowly focused company, expanded earnings by 34% in SE Asia, by what metric do we consider HWP proclamations as gospel?

Re:What AG did is to try to stop the panic selling, especially in financial stocks, the banks etc. by suggesting that liquidity will be put back in the system if things really get out of hand, and to ease the fear of a recession

I think what AG did was to verbalize actual events and aside from the "irrational exuberance" remark in Dec. '96 has, for the most part, steered clear of any market comments. It seems like a very cynical view, and not very credible, that Greenspan and Rubin are jointly trying to manipulate market sentiment. Nothing that has been stated is anything but an actual description of events.

Lee
