Reminds me of an Intel official saying he'd never met a kid
who said computers were getting too powerful.

PX,

Just got an email yesterday advising a new upgrade to musicmatch. Guess I will go download it.

Your list of reasons in favor of MP3, HDD tune storage is relatively complete. But for me there is an even more compelling reason. I spend way too many nights away from home in a hotel room someplace. I gave up hitting the discos and bars a long long time ago (winsome sigh here)and since I am not in sales anymore so I do not do much entertaining. Therefore I spend many nights alone in a hotel room. Thats OK. I sometimes enjoy the solitude afforded. But that solitude is enhanced a lot by being able to pick tunes from my playlist on my laptop. I have 400 MBs of music on it now which will probably grow. I now have intl. roaming for net connect as well. I can now surf the net, listen to my own music, do some homework, etc. in my hotel. Beats the hell out of watching a slightly stale movie at $11.95 a pop on the command video.<G>

<<Thanks Stitch! You ARE the Messiah. >> A slight exageration, I assure you. <GGG>

Best,
Stitch

PX,
<There are a couple of advantages of CDs stored centrally on a PC.>
Interesting use of the word "couple" <g>. It is nice, useful, way cool, and all that.
It is also nothing more than an early test run of a new distribution system for entertainment content. A highly efficient one at that.
Call me a "Luddite" but I worry about where all the people are going to work when they are replaced by efficiencies.

Anyway, again we are talking about an entertainment function. If you have noticed, a large part of the current marketing campaigns for Gateway and Compaq are focused almost exclusively on the computer as a portal for entertainment content.
This is very interesting to me. If you begin to view your computer, stereo, TV, and newspaper as components of a home network and mobile phones, pagers, and personal stereos as extensions of the same network, you will see where my interests are.

mp3 cool but no paradigm buster. Just a tool,

Yogi
