Gary, interesingly Alex posted this letter many months back. It has upset me mildly back than.... For starters BIS had nothing to do with collapse of the USSR, in fact it was an official policy promoted by socialist Euro gvn of pieceful coexistence with "evil empire"...If anything they prolonged this process...It was Ronald Reagan policies of engaging Soviets on all fronts (including massive military weapons race) that pushed them over the cliff... Secondarily the basic premise of "competition" and survival of the fittest is very much in line with my understanding of life, progress and nation's development which is subject to the same rules as any other species... .Rome, Babilone, Japan or USA all subject to the same development set-up or not...Increase in living standards are unavoidebly lead to aging and weakening of the nation unable to give-up gains for the sake of being competitive with younger "tigers".. Japan is "older" tiger...but not for long....China already is flexing growing muscle...
