Stan,

My father, who is a professor of English at a reasonably reputable University, tells me that he has graduate students who seem unaware of the basic rudiments of grammar, and that they frequently object to criticism on these grounds, saying that it is the substance of their thought - or what passes for thought - that counts. One wonders when they intend to start learning the rules. I sure hope they are creative!
