Dear Sonny,

Comparing the East Germans to the Russians is a great mistake. East Germans carried in their cells the DNA of a inovative and hardworking people that for centuries participated in European grouth and prosperity. 50 years of Commuism will eventually wash off as the older generation fade away. The same is valid in Poland, Cech Republic, Hungry, Romania, and Slovenia, countries that benifited from the enlightened rule of Austo-Hungerian Empire and witnessed the Industrial Revolution. In comparison, Russia is multi-ethnic back ward federation of people who really don't care to be togther; looking at the propperous nations of the West with suspicion and distrust!

Moscow and Leningrad where we see well dressed and well fed Russians r8unning arround in Mercedes 500 are only two show cases. The real Russia is very vast where people live in terrible conditions, with no money, no serivces, no sallaries. Unfortinaltely CNN never leaves the security of Moscow to show to the rest of the world how desperate the life for most citizens of Russian Federation has become. All these people have is dreams of an empire that was, and thousands of rusting missles with atomic head that is threatening our civilization and they use to balck-mail IMF to dish out more money! A major world power that neither could fight brave 20,000 Cecenians freedom fighters nor can feed itself.

With Communists certainly blocking nomonation of Chernomyerdin for the
3rd time and starting impeachment process against Yieltsin, I think the situtation could end with a civil war. Head of the Russian Communis party is threatening to call on the arm forces if Yeiltsin moves to desolve Duma.

I say let them solve their own problems; if they sink, then be it. These people want money from the US, IMF and European Community, but they find every opportunity to vote agaisnt the intersts ofUS and free world in the Security Council, as they have done in the case of Iraq, Kosovo, Nato, and Bosnia. They are beggers that pretend too much! If we in the West are foolish enough to think that our aid will help turn Russia into a democratic nation. then we are heading for great disappointmen.

Kind regards,

Yaacov
