Buying near-term in the money puts, is a pretty safe way to protect on the downside. I would buy some, but have already got too much in options at this point. I'm loaded up with LOR LEAPS, and a bunch of index and other big cap LEAPS. I went on a LEAPS buying spree during this sell-off, hopefully it will pay off. Writing some in the money covered calls is probably safe as well, but I have never done any writing... I prefer to trade options for what they are, chips from Harrah's casino.

best of luck.
