>Another idea would be to switch from HK into other emerging markets. As HK is the battleground for emerging markets the world over then I think you would get more bang for your buck elsewhere if things improve in HK. Perhaps Argentina would be a good idea as the market moves in tandem with HK. Or how about the Templeton Emerging Markets fund which is trading at a discount now (12%) for the first time in a long time.

What do you reckon?<

I have to admit I'm a domestic investor at heart; I only started following the world situation when their circumstances started putting my investments at risk. The opportunity, fairness, and transparency of US equities is just too great to pass up for globe-trotting. People used to think our market was mature, that we were the IBM of nations. Instead, I think it's becoming clear that we are actually more akin to Microsoft. There I go again, talking about increasing returns.

I like your idea about going long Argentina. Currency board countries are tough and have strong political will borne of past monetary and fiscal fiascos. In fact, I'm even beginning to be moderately bullish about Russia. Regardless of who becomes premier, I think the real story to watch is whether Fyodorov is in our out.
