AMD is the only one that understand the K6-2 3DNOW code better than anyone and knows how write code to fully take advantage of 3DNOW (as seen in QuakeII 3.17). Thus partnering with AMD will allow 3DFX to maintain the #1 position as the fastest 3D graphic card maker in the market. I have stressed this already. The K6-2 will be the king in consumer 3D graphic gaming. As newer 3DNOW drivers with improved 3DNOW code are released there would be 10%,20%,30%, and up to 50% improvement in performance for those who have bought the K6-2 already. For people who have bought Intel there is not much you can do except replacing a more expensive CPU. Even raising the speed by 50MHz there is only <10% improvement in performance (comparing at PII-350 to PII-400). 3DNOW K6-2 will beat the CeleronA/PII clock for clock and as the K6-2 improves in speed the performance improvement in 3D gaming will outperform what Intel has to offer. For those who think blasting mutant aliens is a waste of time you failed to understand the significant of this sector. 3D gaming and graphics require the most advanced CPU to date. Silicon Graphic has been the king in this sector and their computers have been used widely in the entertainment to bring computer animation to movie screens. Now AMD is bringing this technology to your desktop at the price well below what Intel is offering and attractive enough for first time buyers. K6-2 3DNOW is a competitive advantage over what Intel has to offer. CeleronA on the other hand is very similar to PII. CeleronA is a better buy over PII and K6-2 is a better buy over CeleronA.
