Dell and Novell Broaden Alliance

Customers Now Can Purchase NetWare Corporate Licenses Direct From Dell, Receive NetWare Factory Installed on PowerEdge Servers
ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1998-- Dell Computer Corp. (NASDAQ:DELL - news) and Novell Corp. (NASDAQ:NOVL - news) today announced enhancements to their eight-year strategic alliance which include a new sales licensing agreement and factory installation of Novell's award-winning NetWare(R) operating system on Dell's high-performance PowerEdge(R) servers.

Through the new licensing agreement and factory installation program, Dell will be able to offer NetWare and NetWare upgrades to corporate customers at very competitive prices and install the operating system in the Dell factory prior to delivering the server to a customer. This service is designed to save customers time and money in the set-up and roll-out of their PowerEdge servers running NetWare.

''Dell and Novell have a long history together and our intent today is to expand our partnership for the future,'' said Mike Lambert, senior vice president of Dell's Enterprise Systems Group. ''Dell is committed to offering the best range of industry-standard choices for our customers and NetWare is a key offering in that portfolio.''

Dell's ability to factory-install NetWare and offer upgrades from previous versions of the operating system provides an additional level of service to customers who deploy multiple servers within their business. As part of the factory installation program, Dell will provide 30 days of first-level support for NetWare through its trained staff of Certified Novell Engineers (CNEs). Dell's DirectLine support program options are designed to deliver additional levels of support to the customer and maintain a single contact point for both the hardware and software service issues.

The combination of Dell PowerEdge servers and Novell NetWare is ideal for large file and print consolidation projects or Internet environments. Customers can also choose from a variety of leasing options from Dell for their PowerEdge servers running NetWare. Dell PowerEdge servers are NSTL Hardware Tested Year 2000 compliant. NetWare 4.11 and NetWare 5 are Year 2000 ready platforms designed to help businesses make a smooth transition to the networks of the 21st century.

''Dell's strong entry into the server market has provided new opportunities for Novell's customers,'' said John F. Slitz Jr., senior vice president of Corporate Marketing for Novell. ''NetWare 5's combination of pure IP, directory services, secure Internet enhancements, and rock solid reliability is available in no other operating system. We look forward to working with Dell to bring the business benefits of these features to our joint customers worldwide.''
