SG Cowen Technology Conference to Focus on Year 2000

Boston, Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) -- SG Cowen Securities Corp.'s
26th annual fall technology conference will focus on issues such
as corporate spending on the Year 2000 computer glitch and will
feature investment presentations by about 90 public companies.

The conference, which runs tomorrow to Friday, will feature
a panel with executives from Ascend Communications Inc. and Cisco
Systems Inc. discussing the future of networking architecture.

Microsoft Corp. Chief Financial Officer Greg Maffei will be
interviewed by SG Cowen analyst Andrew Brosseau about the
company's future.

Cowen will release a study, done with PlugIn Datamation
magazine, about corporate technology spending at the conference,
though Brosseau declined to disclose the details of the study
before the conference. Topics will include who's gaining or
losing market share and how companies are spending money on
hardware, software and networking, said Brosseau.

''We can walk away with a sense of the overall technology
environment,'' said Brosseau.

Speakers include Compaq Computer Corp. Chief Financial
Officer Earl Mason; Dell Computer Corp. Chief Financial Officer
Tom Meredith; Sun Microsystems Inc. President Ed Zander; Computer
Sciences Corp. Chief Financial Officer Lee Level; and Computer
Associates International Inc. President Sanjay Kumar.

Other companies that will be featured include Cambridge
Technology Partners Inc.; Shiva Corp.; BMC Software Inc.; and
3Com Corp.

The conference will be at the Marriott Long Wharf Hotel in
Boston. About 1,000 people are expected, including money
managers, venture capitalists and analysts.

The conference will also feature about 50 private technology
companies, said Brosseau.
