Alex, what I don't understand is how there really could be an inverse relationship between gun ownership and crime, since the statistics I have been discussing show that gun owners are more likely to be the victims of guns than non gun-owners, and that in countries where handguns are less restricted, more people per capita die of gun-related causes.

I don't really want to start over, either, but I think this is where we get stuck, don't you?
