not only that, but if memory serves, bids were to be ultra low in order to get the nod...maybe another reason why only 35K lines, eh?

[dt etc]

hi darrell,

it does seem like the rumored numbers for orctf's share of dt have slipped some (70%- 60% - 50%) .. (no doubt an interesting story in there somewhere).. was worried a while back that they might not even get top billing, so this sounds pretty good, also the 35k mentioned was minimum, so there very well could be some room for upside..

am thinking that "only" getting 35k lines is probably a good thing near term.. because until orctf can get their costs further down (the new silicon), the more orctf has to ship the more pressure is on the bottom line..

am guessing, in crude figures, revenues for orctf would be a little less than $8- 9 million... maybe closer to $6-7 million... as they do have to share with fujitsu and as 9r put it, bids probably had to be ultra low...

that being said, think this is very good news, for as you mentioned... europe is showing all the signs of gearing up and it looks like orctf is gonna be a (atm/adsl) contender.. and think those in the game early stand the best chance for future rounds..

altho this dt tender is "only" 70,000 lines, dt has stated that.. "the initial rollout this year will be extended to 40 cities in 1999 and to more than 70 cities by 2002." .. so it sounds like there will be a more action in the not too distant future..

sounds like dt is pretty serious..as "the (adsl) commercial rollout is being handled by Peter Kahl, DT's senior executive director for data communications and the man credited with the "hugely successful" introduction of ISDN in Germany."...dt has something like 8.7 million isdn subscribers...

ft is also very big in isdn which should help orctf's chances as it probably has with dt.. also bt is big in isdn, and also interested in fsan and tight with fujitsu.. as you know fujitsu is working with wstl with bt in the announced trial, but ...

best wishes
