Can someone explain to me what this program, The X-Files, is all about? I have heard of it but never watched an episode. In fact I have never watched an episode of Seinfeld or Cheers or much of any of these shows. I guess that makes me a bit of a cultural outcast in this late 20th century society but that's fine by me. None of my friends (all in their late 30s and early 40s) are familiar with these programs either.

But then again, who wants to relate to this society when you see kids in high school or college who can't tell time unless they have a digital watch, who've never heard of Karl Marx or the Marx brothers for that matter, who've never read a book outside of school and who can't add, subtract, divide or multiply, not to mention write a coherent sentence.

This is the culture of television, a social group brought up on the inanities of pop culture and television.

What hope is there!
