Berk-Tek, an Alcatel Company, Announces Ortronics, Inc. as an OASIS Program Connectivity Partner

PR Newswire, Friday, September 11, 1998 at 11:09

NEW HOLLAND, Pa., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Berk-Tek, an Alcatel Company,
announces that Ortronics, Inc. is an approved connectivity partner for all
copper and fiber optic solutions being offered to the data communications
market under Berk-Tek's Open Architecture Systems Interconnection Solutions
(OASIS) Program.
Berk-Tek, the recognized leader in high-performance copper and fiber optic
structured cabling solutions, chose Ortronics based on their extensive range
of structured cabling connectivity products. Phil Radics, Berk-Tek's
marketing programs manager said, "Ortronics has always demonstrated superior
product design and customer service. Ortronics' complete line of voice, data
and video communications connectivity products, which include patch panels,
interface cords, workstation outlets, cable raceway and cable management
systems, will be featured in the OASIS Program."
Berk-Tek developed its OASIS Program to meet the most challenging customer
bandwidth requirements and to give network designers the ability to offer the
highest performing structured cabling solutions, Radics said.
Under the OASIS Program, Berk-Tek, in partnership with Ortronics and ETL
independent testing laboratories, has designed the LANmark(TM) Enhanced
Solutions, LANmark(TM) Gigabit Solutions and GIGAlite(TM) Fiber Solutions to
exceed the additional transmission performance specifications necessary to
support high-speed protocols.
-- The LANmark Enhanced Solutions (Berk-Tek's LANmark-350 UTP cable)
features Ortronics' Series II and TracJack modular jacks, modular to 110 Patch
panels and Enhanced Frequency Interface Cords (manufactured with Berk-Tek's
LANmark-350 stranded patch cord).
The LANmark Enhanced Solutions is considered the proven horizontal UTP
channel solution engineered to exceed the proposed TIA Additional Transmission
Performance Specification for Enhanced Category 5 (CAT-5e). The LANmark
Enhanced Solutions provides the customer with superior bandwidth and network
performance for application protocols up to Gigabit Ethernet (1000BaseT).
-- The LANmark Gigabit Solutions (Berk-Tek's LANmark-1000 UTP cable)
features Ortronics' GigaMo+ modular connectors, GigaMo+ patch panels and
GigaMo+ Enhanced Frequency Interface Cords (manufactured with Berk-Tek's
LANmark-1000 stranded patch cord).
The LANmark Gigabit Solutions is considered the ultimate horizontal UTP
channel solution for supporting applications requiring full-duplex
transmission such as Gigabit Ethernet, multimedia applications and beyond.
The LANmark Gigabit Solutions is designed to exceed the proposed TIA
Transmission Performance Specifications for Category 6 (CAT-6) and guaranteed
to "future-proof" the channel.
-- The GIGAlite Fiber Solutions option offers turnkey horizontal and
backbone optical fiber channels that feature Ortronics' complete line of
fiber optic connectivity products. Each fiber solution incorporates
Berk-Tek's comprehensive line of indoor, outdoor and indoor/outdoor fiber
optic cable products highlighted by Berk-Tek's new GIGAlite(TM) optical fiber
solution.

Fiber solutions, featuring GIGAlite, offer the only multimode (62.5/125)
optical fiber backbone designed to support gigabit protocols up to 550 meters.
Optical backbones featuring GIGAlite are necessary to facilitate bandwidth
intensive applications such as 622 Mb/s ATM, Gigabit ATM and Gigabit Ethernet
thus ensuring total network performance and reliability.
Through a global network of certified OASIS integrators, the OASIS Program
offers what is considered the industry's finest open architecture warranty --
a 25-year extended product, application assurance and installation labor
guarantee. The OASIS warranty guarantees that the structured cabling system
installed today will support the applications of tomorrow.
Radics added, "Tomorrow's technologies and standards are the basis for
today's OASIS Program. The solutions offered provide the end user, customer,
network designer and installer the peace of mind that the structured cabling
system purchased, designed and installed is the highest-performing, most
cost-effective solution available.
"The OASIS Program maximizes the advantages of open architecture by
incorporating the highest-performing components into solutions that
future-proof any network by ensuring seamless application migration
capabilities and by providing a superior level of long-term reliability."
