And what if small animals, corrosion, lightning, ... A U.S. petrochemical industry safety manager explains what could happen: "I could have a sphere of butadiene under pressure, monitored by an electrical system. When the year 2000 comes, the system could fail to 1900. There would be no history of pressure levels, so the system would regulate to zero pressure. Suddenly the pressure drops 30 pounds in the sphere, and I've got an auto-ignition fire." -- or -- next month a squirrel chews off the pressure sensor so the system sees a high(low) pressure and regulates to zero(bursting) pressure. Suddenly ... etc. etc. If you don't have safeguards in your system, heaven help you. For sure the lawyers will be helping themselves. Look, no matter what chip you use, it's only a microscopic wire or two that determine the time you get when you read the chip. Less than 1uMeter .039 mils. Want to bet your life on that? What really frightens me is that people may not have fail safe multiple backups for life threatening situations. I really could care less that the janitor has to reset the day of week. We all need to use 'Y2K' as a forcing function to eliminate short cuts that endanger life. If it takes calling these system reviews 'Y2K', fine. I don't want my car to suddenly decide on it's own that it won't run while I'm in it. I don't care if it's on 1 Jan 00 or not. It's my life. Let the car complain, but let me decide. Same with all the rest. Some human needs to be accountable and in ultimate direct (as direct as possible) control. Otherwise, what owns who? P.S. your reply === not responsive to my post.
