Expanding User Base is a Good Point

and I agree with your presumption.
I guess my point is that 3d cards
are less compelling a need with the
reduced action of an RPG than a
first person shooter. RPG players
may manage fine with the 3d ablilities
of their computers without buying a
3dfx card, whereas Unreal players
would be sorely missing out if they
were not willing to spent a bit more
on their hardware investment. FF7
as simply unplayeable without 3dfx.
It's titles like those that will sell
far more cards, IMHO, then by tapping
into a new game type market, that may
not actually need that much 3d power.
I know adults like us won't blink at
spending the money even for a lowly
RPG, but the average teenager bugging
his folks to spend yet another $100
on that computer they just bought may
not be able to justify the luxury.
