Paul, the "perception" in much of the investment community is that Intel finally has serious competition which will keep it from growing. Once the perception is proved wrong, then the stock will make all-time highs.

Joey,

My casual observation while visiting Circuit City last night, was that Intel has very serious competition. A surprisingly large percentage of the systems on sale had Cyrix or AMD CPUs.

It is not difficult to understand how the investment community arrived at their "perception."

Joey - re: "Once the perception is proved wrong, then the stock will make all-time highs. Intel announcement of good Q3 earnings and forecast of improved Q4 earnings will be the start of debunking this myth."

It's funny that a string of deepening quarterly losses by AMD and Cyrix cannot convince "investors" that Intel's competition is, at best, CRIPPLED.

Perhaps it is only Politically Correct to be generous to these "Intel-Challenged" competitors.

Q398 earning are only about 5 weeks away.

Paul

Joey, Re: " Intel announcement of good
Q3 earnings and forecast of improved Q4 earnings will be the start of debunking
this myth. I look for strong stock performance in Nov./Dec."

Why wait until Nov./Dec.? How about Sept./Oct.? Intel stock has been strong, even before today. 3Q earnings are due Oct. 13. If revenues and earnings are up sequentially and YOY, that should be plenty to keep it going up. Neither Barrett, nor anyone else from Intel I've seen quoted has backed off from the up/up story.
