Yet more good news. Another plant closing.

Matsushita closes Wash. semiconductor plant

PUYALLUP, Wash., Sept. 8 (Reuters) - The $300 million semiconductor manufacturing unit of Japan-based Matsushita Electric
Industrial Co. Ltd. said Tuesday it would cease operations in December 1998.

The decision was made in light of changing conditions in the semiconductor market and the sharp decline in dynamic random access
memory (DRAM) prices since the beginning of last year, Matsushita Semiconductor Corp. of America said in a statement.

The unit, based in Puyallup, Wash., employs 340 people.

Further details will be announced at a later date, the company said.
