Hi Steve, The Faith of Abraham is symbolic scriptural wording that captures that type of faith that has always pleased God and brought men God's favor and salvation. We are not talking about salvation by being Born Again and filled with the Holy Spirit as in the New Covenant, but about salvation as favor with God that will permit men to enter the Kingdom of God through the Blood of Jesus. The symbolic wording Faith of Abraham might just as well been the Faith of Able or the Faith of Noah, or the Faith of Enoch. In fact, in many places in the bible it does refer to their faith as the paradigm of faith just as we refer to the Faith of Abaraham as the paradigm of faith. This gospel type faith has been available to man from the beginning with the children of Adam. This faith was always found in the children of the fall beginning with Able and coming forward to us. Before Abraham was chosen by God as a remnant had this faith, and a remanant among the Israelites continued to have this faith. All these men of faith in the Old Testament and under the old covenant received a good report from God through their faith but did not receive the promise. Listen to the conclusion of the chapter of faith in the 12th. Ch. of Hebrews:Hebs.12 39: And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. The Faith of Abraham became symbolic of all the examples in the Old Testament of the faith that brings the favor of God. Paul's purpose in both Galatians, Romans, and Hebrews is to reveal the mystery that the true children of Abraham are those who have the faith of Abraham and not those who merely have the seed of Abraham. This is a repeat of the principle God had taught us with Ishmael and Isaac and with Esau and Jacob. The sons of the spirit were the children and not the sons of the flesh. God was revealing the mystery that the only children he ever had were children of faith. The conclusion of Galatians 3 is: Gal.3 24: Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified byfaith. 25: But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. 26: For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27: For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28: There is neither Jew nor Greek , there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29: And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. The purpose of God's revelation to Paul is to destroy the false concept that salvation is by the racial seed rather than by the SPIRITUAL SEED WHICH IS CHRIST. The Pharisees and Sadduccees were pumped up with pride because of their genetic linkage to Abraham, but most of them did not have the faith of Abraham. Listen to the inspired words of John Baptist: 7: But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Matt.3 7.7: But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8: Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 9: And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father : for I say unto you, thatGod is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 10: And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. God had revealed the same thought to John the Baptist Christ was the end of the thought of genetic or ethnic salvation and the beinning of the age of salvation by faith in the spirit. It has always been this way but was hidden to the eyes of most. Now Christ had made it a commonality. The Lord reveals this same thought in Romans. The theme of Romans is salvation by faith and not by works or ethnicity. We need to study the whole book of Romans in order to understand the full important of God's revelation to Paul and the Church.Romans 2 28: For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. Paul's purpose in Hebrews is to show that the new covenant has been established in Christ and that the old covenant is dead. The ethnic nation of Israel-Judah and the Old Testament Temple religion died after Jesus established the new covenant(Hebs. 8:13--In that he saith, A new covenant, hehath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. ) Paul wrote this a few years before the destruction of the Temple and Old Testament nation of Israel. According to the word of God, there is only one nation of Israel today--those who are in Christ Jesus. Without these and all other New Covenant revelations that Christ brought it is impossible to understand the Old Testament prophecies. Please give me your hones opinions of these things. May Christ lead you. In the love of Christ Emile
