Del, phase change uses lasers on disks. Pits were put on CD disks and DVD disks to change reflectivity. MO technology uses floppy disks with different technology. With pits reading 0 or 1 you could get computer language.

A good answer to your question is in ECDs site under phase change. ECD had the basic pattens to Phase change material which is now expired. The re-write phase change pattens are still good and ECD should be entitled to royalties off all re-write phase change. (These were developed with Matsushita of Japan.)Instead of pits grooves are used in re-write. Del,this is not my field I am just trying to help maybe someone could correct me if I am off base.

I belive some (my guess a least 3 disk makers) have not sign licenses with ECD.

Skim through some early posts were DVD-RAM is talked about. Heres a site that has got more than you want to know about DVD.

unik.no

This site also mentions DVD-RAM from time to time.
