This morning I read through a journal article entilted,
"Gold Metallogeny of Chile-an Introduction-Econ Geology Vol 86, 1991, pp 1187-1205" This article is basically a geologic model of Chile.
This model would predict a "relatively" small CU/MO/AU porphyry deposit in the Lapangue area-perhaps similar to the one near Andacollo.
Certainly a big economical viable deposit but probably not "World Class" as many of the porphyry deposits in other parts of Chile/world. This explains the lack of interest of other mining companies in this area. This deposit would have to be a big "exception" to be what MDIN seems to think it is. Some of the surface features of the deposit suggest to me that it might be that exception but I'm not going to hold my breath. A nice 5 to 10 million ounces of gold plus tons of copper will do nicely all the same.
