I'm new to this thread but have been a apple person a long time, and I'm also a stock holder, my question is, is apple going to give us 8.5 or will we have to buy it ?? Welcome. You will most certainly have to buy Mac OS 8.5. Apple stopped giving their system software away for free with the release of System 7.1. You will, however, get incremental updates for free, as in those with a number after the second decimal point, such as 7.5.3 or 7.6.1. I don't think there are scheduled to be any incremental updates to Mac OS 8.5 before 8.6 ships, though.
