Not bad, it's just after Labor Day and the "Cost of Christmas Party to Earnings" ratio is already being discussed. We went through this discussion last year (although I think it didn't start until November). Search back (way back) through the thread and you will find all of the theories and a few posts from Oracle employees who did (not) attend the several smaller parties that Oracle had last year. Larry is not going to try to put better numbers up by cutting back on year end parties. How much do you suppose dropping the party would affect earnings?

I plan on attending Oracle's Oracle8i event in NYC next week. I expect that Larry and Ray Lane will both be in pretty good moods. The schedule includes a Q&A for press and analysts. I don't think that it is merely coincidence that this event is scheduled for the Monday following the earnings announcement. Oracle would not schedule this product announcement so soon after earnings come out if they thought that the "Internet Database" message would be lost amid a barrage of questions about disappointing earnings. I expect good news and positive press over the next two weeks.
