Did anyone catch the SUN/AMD TIE IN ? (oh! damn there goes my caps key sticking again!) IT HAS TO DO WITH SUN EMPLOYMENT OF AN AT&T SUB-LISCENSE OF THE NT MICROCODE AND POSSIBLY SIGNIFICANT COMMITMENT TO AMD CHIP PURCHASES. NO APPARENT LIKELIHOOD OF AMD MAKING ANY MONEY ON THE ARRANGEMENT PROBABLY, BUT IT MAY BE A STEP IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION.

Re: "If as you say Intel is farther ahead than ever before in technology what should AMD's business plan be? "

AMD had a strong product in the 29K series of RISC based microcontrollers. AMD was a player in the communications chip business and a very competitive flash supplier. R&D funds had to be diverted to the Processor division to continue the pathological assult on the evil empire. This wasn't good business sense, but as is now clear, good business was never the intention in the first place. As a result AMD has posted loss after loss and no end is in sight. Jerry is pleased because Intel's profit margins have shrunk. What about the AMD shareholders? They are not a concern and never will be as long as Jerry is at the helm. You and I are paying for Jerry's adventures.

What should AMD's business plan be? Isn't it obvious?

David, Re: BTW don't answer with they should role over and die. Let's do this seriously and offer a discussion of what they and NSM should do to

Is it that easy with people discussing on this thread
seriously and we are going to see a solution ? AMD and
NSM management should visit this thread frequently then.

david, >>>"So what does the future hold for chipmaking? How much competition should it
have? We currently have one world dominant company in CPUs. Everybody else
put together is still small cheese. Should this much market control be vested in 1
company?
"<<<

So what would you suggest, that we break up Intel?

>>>"Let's do this seriously and offer a discussion
of what they and NSM should do to compete effectively and profitably."<<<

I think that the people that post who are seriously behind AMD are trying to do this. Read and heed them. Of course, the overwhelming business strategy that Sanders has set is that AMD will take a chunk out of Intel, at any cost. The AMD-o-phytes arguments also assume and embrace this, for better or for worse.
