Do you have enough free time and expertise to play the indices on a daily basis? There in lies the answer to your question? Certainly direct trading is more profitable if you know what you're doing and can hit it right.

Switching is as easy the cost of transaction. Jerry Favor's Analysis has recommended Rydex as long as I can remember. I am positioned in the 1/(S&P-500) via Ursa and also hold leap puts to Dec 1999.

Have you considered their precious metal fund? Looks interesting if and when the POG rises.
