Just borrow money from BOJ and invest it in u.s. treasuries/bonds at virtually no risk. What is the incentive to loan?? The MOF had been talking the yen up for the past 3 weeks. Overnight the yen rocketed down versus the dollar and mark. Just do the opposite of what they say and you'll make $$$.

Very doable, I know of one "off-shore" advisory group doing just that, financing mortgages in yen at 2.5%. If the yen goes up they rotate the mortgage into Swiss francs, I believe, that has been consistently stable around 3%.

One of my fellow ex-pats here is in the business and doing very well thank you very much.
