Wally: Thanks for the articles.

"Near term news could be dominated by negatives including - Clinton debacle, Russian
government anarchy, & perhaps the one with the most affect in this nervous market:
"pre-earnings" warning season. And lets face it, when all the internal/external "noise"
subsides, it is earnings - & the prospects for earnings that drive the market."

Like I have been saying, if you could figure out what news has been discounted in this market, you would be very rich. With one issua at a time, it is much easier. With a half a dozen issues spinning on different plates, it becomes far more difficult. I think the earnings warnings news is in the market at current levels by and large. I believe it is the international political (including the President) and economic news that is still at issue. I continue to be impressed by the Russians' continued willingness to play by the rules in the face of a dire economic situation. I am not sure it really matters to us who gets the PM slot so long as it is not some nationalistic cold-war nut. In reality, can one man really make a difference there as far as propping their economy up? Does anyone have any information on what our policy is towards Russia as far as economic and/or humanitarian aid?

RE: "Anyone hear him address earnings prospects last weekend?"

He is projecting 1999 S&P 500 earnings of $51.50, based on his projection for 1210 and a P/E of 23.5.

Best wishes,

I2
