Stocks slid on Wednesday as jitters over the presidency spurred investors to lock in profits. In the last half-hour of the session, news that Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr's report had been sent to Congress spurred new selling. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 150 points to 7865. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell about 36 points to 1625.
