Rob: Remember Geekware

It's baaaaaaccckk!

Ok so IBM probably just wants another outlet for their voice recognition software, but according to the article they will also be participating in the marketing of the XYBR product.

Maybe your new Killer app - voice recognition and mine TCP/IP can come together in the brave new world of cheap cpu's and get us unleashed form our desks. I don't think this iteration (266 mhz cpu) will get it done, but maybe a few dirt cheap (low power consumption) 64 bit RISC chips lashed together running a nice tight version of Win CE (or whatever) will.

The implications are staggering! Just think of the possibilities - the portable University for one! Maybe you'll be teaching my son EE while ensconced in your vast private estate in Bali (replete with vahini) while he's executing (tax free of course) billion dollar trades off his boat in the Bahamas. I know, I know, its only a niche market and too expensive because of the screen. But hey, I can dream can't I? This stuff activates all my brains technolust centers and reminds me of the excitement generated in the early days of the PC. Hell, who knows, I may even learn how to spell write (oops). Won't that be something?!

I gave up on them because the most disturbing thing in this press release is the product planning which says orders suck. The write-down is nothing but the hope of revenue growth is nil for at least 6 to 9 months. Come December tax loss selling time, no one know how low IDTI will go. I have learned a big lesson on this dog.
