"I gather you're not overclocking the bus, just the processor, is that correct?"

I'll let Dan answer for himself, tho I'm sure he's doing the same thing I am.

In my case, nothing is overclocked but the CPU, which is just the way I likes it. :) The 4x clock-locked celeron, meant to run on a 66 mhz bus, is run on the 100 mhz bus / 33 mhz PCI bus that BX boards allow.

Regards,

Dave

Yes you are correct, I am only overclocking the CPU. I am using a SOYO 6BA mainboard which has 5 pci slots and is jumperless. All settings are via the BIOS so it is really easy to change on a reboot. This motherboard auto senses whether a CPU is 66mhz or 100 so I had to "fake it out" by covering up pin B21. if anyone isn't familiar with this here's the url- tomshardware.com
The BIOS setting offers a bus of 100, 103, and 112 but NT won't boot at anything but 100. The CPU ratios are from 2.0 - 5.5. During the day trading I have it set to 4.0 x 100 = 400mhz. It has never locked up at this speed. During other times, like right now, I have it set to 4.5 or 450 mhz. It runs great at 450 and it still hasn't locked up, but I want to monitor it for a while longer before I leave it set to 450 for good. I have a good fan and have never seen the temp go above 90 degrees, but then again the covers are always off my machines. :-))

Yes at $82 I don't really care if it burns out. I wouldn't buy another one for a spare though, I would just be down a short time to swap one from another machine or pick another one up. Anyway how many of you have actually burnt up a CPU? I never have and I support and build and play with these things for a living. Guess i've been lucky.

All this tinkering sometimes reminds me of auto mechanics during my high school days, many years ago. Always playing to make a hotrod out of the family station wagon. <g>

BTW, my 266 celeron was an OEM and it was a SL2TR with the supposedly better 1 stepping. Most oem's are the o stepping but many still overclock OK.
