David,

I am not technically proficient so I have nothing to offer from that angle, but what evidence do we have that IDX can adapt itself to whatever standards come out of BioAPI? Is it just a matter of making some software changes or is it something more complicated than that? If they have to re-configure hardware it would seem to involve a lot more expense.

If IDX can easily adapt to whatever API comes about then is this even such a big deal after all? Fowlers' ho-hum attitude about this seems to suggest there is not much reason to be concerned about API's. On the other hand, if API's are inevitable, shouldn't IDX be at the table to help guide the consortium towards standards which might be most advantageous for IDX? Perhaps this is an issue which could be brought up in a conference call or at the annual meeting.
