Gentlemen, herewith the lineage of the PhD economist:

Arithmetic: Take 1+1=2
Mathematics: Change 1+1=2 to 1+x=2 x=1
Statistics: Repeat x=1 n times = (whatever you want)
Economics: Replace x=1 with: (whatever you want) + (whatever you want) = (whatever you think at the moment)
PhD: Award given for thesis to promulgate the myth.
