It was a ridiculous piece of fluff writing by a hack amateur. Nonetheless, it does point out that in most people's feeble minds all they have heard about amazon is that "It's the one internet company making tons of money."

I dont know how the rumor got started, but it seems to be the one that persists. How many times do we have to beat the retail investor over the head with their balance sheet before they realize this beast is FLOWING with red ink?

This article has been around a few days. What you must discount is, ZDNET is a Website that is paid by the Internet stocks to report positive articles. Annette Hamilton is nothing other than a PR agent for any Internet Co, that wants her to promote Internet activity.
