Sept. 9, 1998-- Quantum Corporation and Tandberg Data ASA today announced that the two storage companies have entered into a manufacturing license and marketing agreement through which Tandberg Data can become an independent second source for DLTtape(TM) drives, including products under development based on Quantum's Super DLTtape architecture as well as the current DLTtape architecture. As part of the agreement, Tandberg Data intends to market a full spectrum of products -- including drives, media and tape-automation products -- based on the DLTtape platform, which has become the industry standard for protecting mission-critical enterprise data.

Is this good or bad? Does Quantum give up sales, or extend the strength of DLT and SDLT? Do they profit from this? Seemed like they had a nice profit center being the only source for tape cartridges.
