The IBM drive cements CompactFlash as a standard. In that sense, it is helpful to SanDisk. However, the hard drive will be a competitor to flash at the high end.

Regarding CompactFlash "Type II": this is a regular CF port, but spec'ed to allow slightly thicker devices (5mm - still very thin!)

BTW, this is old news. The IBM drive was disclosed at least a couple months ago.
