I think the merger between TLAB and CIEN is dead. The voters will kill it and no matter how Birck and his board want it (I doubt the rest of the board think exactly the same as Birck does), the majority is mutual funds owned. After the merger is off, Ciena should think seriously about the ISP and private network side of business. The lumpiness and weirdness of telco is too frustrating for any company. Cisco does not have much telco business except its StratCom division anyway.
