Excluding people like Mr. Buffett, it's often hard to tell the difference. Of course when we make a big gain people are likely to attribute it to skill, but when there is a big loss bad it's often blamed on bad luck. Personally, I would rather be lucky than skillful, because good luck ensures a good result, and you can screw up even when you are skillful... :-)
