You are right, I did miss that. I now see that the current S&P 500 level is far, far above the top channel; farther above the channel than ever before in the past 100 years. In fact, it is so far above the channel that it makes me question the validity of the data interpretation.

My engineering training comes back to me when I see a data pattern with an excessive outlier like that. It means that either something has radically changed from all of the previous data, or there is a mistake in calculations or interpretation.

Since I am NOT one of the "new era thinkers" who believes that it is all different this time, that the market can indeed fly to the moon, then I am forced to believe that something is wrong with the interpretation of data or calculations used to generate the chart.
