Hi, Bill

Somewhere in the links I gave was, I think, a Diamond page showing their Multi Monitor details. On that page, there are two asterisks next to the Viper, and it says they don't yet work in a Mulit Monitor system in Win 98. I use two of them in NT, and they're great, but you'll have to wait a while for 98 MM, if you decide to keep the Viper.

I also think I gave you a list, or a link to a list, of all the cards that are currently able to be combined into a MM setup in 98. If not, let me know, and I'll shoot it over.

Yes, as of now, AGP cards will not be Primary cards, only secondary. That isn't as big of a problem as you might think, though. You will still be able to attach your best monitor to your best card, if you wish. The designation of Primary is only of importance in the following regard:

The primary card is a designation the computer needs simply to decide which monitor will be the one to display bootup information, during, you guessed it, bootup. Once the major boot is done, both monitors then display as one. Also, you will have, under Display properties, tabs that will allow you to set certain settings related to the MM, such as whether you wish the monitors to display as if they were above and beneath each other, or next to each other, etc.

Also, unless you need extra memory on your video card for high end graphics, such as CAD, or you're an avid gamer, 4mb cards are fine for a trading machine, IMHO.

Let me know if you need some more help with this.

Len

Bill,

Sounds like your initial experience was the same as mine. The PCI fired up as primary and the AGP stayed black. I think you may have a problem with your AGP (see my other note) since their win98 drivers may not support multi monitors. ATI is my OEM AGP card and the updated drivers clearly do support it, AS THE SECONDARY adapter.

Not sure why the other poster said viper330 is not compatible. It clearly is and was on my shopping list. See: diamondmm.com ,they confirm its compatibility.

My AGP is 8mb. I bought the velocity 4400, which is 16mb for $199, in stock at Comp USA. I would have gone with 8 or 12 but couldn't find an acceptable product. That price would have been closer to $120-140. I use a ton of graphics applications for my educational materials.
