Integrating the technology together, make the product, and sell to the customers. That is a lot of work.

Here is how it work:
#1) AMD gets Motorola copper process.
#2) AMD partners with SUNW in designing 64-bit processor.
#3) Microsoft writes the codes to support AMD-SUNW CPU.
#4) AMD and Motorola build large volume of the CPUs
#5) CPQ, SUNW, IBM, ACER, Fujitsu, and HP use it in their system.

Sound like a win-win situation to me. It is all about getting to the market first.
