Moynihan was asked if Clinton might be saved by some ceremony of contrition akin to Henry II's scourging after he instigated the murder of Becket, or Emperor Henry IV kneeling in the snow outside the residence of Pope Gregory VII. Moynihan replied, "That's another age of the absolute monarchies. We have a Constitution. Let's live by it." Seems obvious to me that in a nation which abides under the rule of law, we can't do anything but abide by the highest law of the land, the Constitution. The fate of a party is tethered to an incumbent president, and Clinton is undoing the Democrats' arduous 30-year climb back from the perception of strangeness. Remember the turmoil of the 1968 convention, "acid, amnesty and abortion," "San Francisco Democrats," support for furloughs for murderers and opposition to the Pledge of Allegiance? Now Democrats are represented by a man who represents the doctrine of permissible perjuries, innocuous lies and oral sex in the workplace. And the ever-present apologists continue to say it's all a "conjured up scandal"; a "voyeuristic investigation". Brings to mind that old retort to a whining excuse-giver: "Go tell it to a judge". Thanks for digging up these articles. These are all excellent. Notice that the UK Electronic Telegraph is actually carrying a column (the one by Ambrose) that mentions that Clinton's old pal close pal Dan Lasater is a convicted and jailed cocaine dealer, and that Clinton's cocaine use was also witnessed by (among numerous others) Ms. Parks, the widow of the murdered Jerry Parks, who was Clinton's campaign headquarters security guy? And notice that the author Ambrose heard this story directly from Ms. Parks' lips? This is the first I've seen this stuff in the "mainstream" print. At least it's up from the ranks of conspiracy theory video catagory.
