Okay, I'll agree with that. The GJ is the worst place to try to defend yourself since you're without counsel and at the mercy of the prosecutor. (BTW, Clinton might have been best off if the GJ was the ulitimate arbiter of his guilt because rumor has it that they gave the prosecutors a hard time; rolled their eyes at the questions; asked pointed questions to establish weaknesses in Starr's theories; and slept when the questioning dragged on.)

I would also point out however that many defendants rest their cases without presenting any evidence, and I would guess that a majority of defendants whose cases go to trial never testify. My point is that Clinton was in a unique position because he not only has to defend himself from criminal charges but also had to defend himself in the court of public opinion. So he could not plead the 5th. And Starr, with knowledge of this, taunted the President.
