A rate cut will not save this market now, besides the Fed is hamstrung by political pressures in Washington and the downward pressure that will put on the dollar. A rate cut was helpful after the crash of '87 but interest rates were high then and the world economy was in good shape. None of these factors are in place today. Today we have spreading political and economic problems as well as a big political vacuum in Washington. A rate cut will boost the market in the short-term (maybe a few days) but it will do absolutely nothing to alleviate all of the problems we now face.

What a mess!
