Tim, couldn't disagree with you more.

1. clinton - finally getting clinton out would likely trigger a rally. clinton is currently priced into the market.

2. rates - Greenspan will lower rates at the first sign of a recession. As long as the "bias" is to lower, which it now is, this will support stocks. Recession is another issue. With all the paper loss of the last couple weeks, people in general will have less to spend on luxuries, like new cars, homes, etc. These things are where people tend to cash out asset. Well, those assets are less now. This fact, will likely cause Greenspan to loosen, maybe soon.

3. earnings - no indication so far that the leaders are in jeopardy. In this market, PE's are contracting (watch out CSCO, DELL, MSFT). Stocks will reasonable PE's (ASND, INTC, CPQ) will hold up well as long as earnings are good.

Watch out for more carnage in the banks and brokerages, though. These can be bought lower, maybe much lower.
