Dan ----

====> However, impeachment is a possibility and I'm curious how the market reacted back then

I was a totally different creature way back then (buy it, put it away, forget about it hold hold hold hold ) ......
and it did work well, back then ........

so
I can only guestimate on faulty recall, the market reaction, but it seems as if it was similar to the GulfWar situation ......
down
down
stabilize
slight up
more up
and
back to normal --- (don't ask me to define normal ..... VBZG)

I have posted to you without benefit of any research .....
only vague and faulty memory ......
which, if you live long enough, you will understand ......... GGGG

Regards ---- Nemer

Dan, as I recall, Nixon resigned [I think] in Aug of 74. The DJIA dropped for several months before and after his resignation. Here are some dates and numbers for the DJIA:

Jan 73: 1046
Jan 74: 861
Jun 74: 853
Aug 74: 785
Sep 74: 678
Jan 75: 641
Jan 76: 899

As you can see, the DJIA was lower AFTER his resignation than before, but the entire year of 1974 sank lower. How much any of that had to do with Nixon, I don't know.

Impeachment is a certainty now; now longer just a possibility. The country is getting behind the idea. Clinton has to be removed at this point. I don't know if they will get him tossed out by the Senate, but impeachment in the House is a certainty. The Democrats are getting destroyed with all of this as badly as the Republicans over the closing of the government. The Republican stategy is working out. The longer this goes and the more serious it gets, the worse for the Dem's. The Dem's have been destroyed by this.
