space cadet, << company overview >> After I posted the company overview and reread it, I couldn't believe I made the original investment. Sometimes I get hungry enough for a stock that I tend to read through what doesn't read well. Fortunately I've learned to stick my foot in the water instead of diving in. I tried diving in during the 97 rally when stocks looked rosy and I'd read all the investment books. October 97 was a real lesson. CIEN looks so clear in hindsight. :-) Larry

"I remember gawking in disbelief last year at its valuation. I was short CIEN last summer in the 40s and 50s. I basically covered flat. I think I made enough to cover commissions. "Too bad all I did was gawk, though I would have had to show more patience than I usually exhibit to profit anyway." You would have had to have held through a buyout offer and a run into the 90s. It's why I can't kick myself for covering, even though the result would have been right. I would have had to have taken unacceptable risks to have stayed short. Of course, all the trades are easy in hindsight. <g> Barb
